The culture ministry has unveiled a new digital platform designed to improve access to the country’s cultural heritage for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, as part of a broader effort to make museums, archaeological sites and other cultural venues more accessible.

The platform, known as Eumaios, was presented on Thursday in the presence of Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, Culture Secretary General Olympia Vikatou, senior ministry officials and representatives of the National Confederation of Disabled People (ESAmeA).

Developed under the project “Recording Accessibility Conditions at Cultural Sites and Developing a Digital Information Portal for Visitors with Reduced Mobility,” the platform will catalogue accessibility conditions at cultural venues across Greece and provide practical information to help visitors plan their visits.

The initiative is intended to serve people with disabilities, individuals living with chronic or rare diseases, older adults and others with mobility limitations, with the aim of ensuring equal access to the country’s cultural heritage and services.

According to the ministry, the platform will provide centralized, up-to-date information on accessibility features at cultural sites nationwide, helping users identify facilities and services available before traveling.

The launch builds on a broader government program to improve accessibility at Greece’s museums and archaeological sites. Recent projects have included the installation of elevators, ramps and accessible routes at major landmarks, including the Acropolis, as well as upgrades to visitor infrastructure at museums and heritage sites across the country.

Ministry officials have increasingly emphasized that improving physical and digital accessibility is central to making Greece’s cultural heritage available to all visitors while aligning the country’s cultural policies with international accessibility standards.
