The Neighbourhood will perform in Greece for the first time when the California band takes the stage at Release Athens on Friday, June 25, at the newly announced Markopoulo Complex in the Athens area.
Known worldwide for blending alternative rock, pop and R&B, The Neighbourhood built a global audience with “Sweater Weather,” one of Spotify’s most-streamed songs. Their appearance will also mark the opening of a new chapter for Release Athens, which is moving to a larger venue with a two-stage setup designed to accommodate more artists each festival day.
More acts are expected to be announced.
The Neighbourhood comes to Greece for the first time
Formed in California in 2011, The Neighbourhood quickly moved beyond the alternative scene that first introduced them to audiences. Led by frontman Jesse Rutherford, the band developed a distinctive aesthetic alongside a sound that brought together alternative rock, pop and R&B.

Their breakthrough came with “Sweater Weather,” released on their 2013 debut album, I Love You. More than a decade after its release, the song is approaching 5 billion streams on Spotify and ranks among the platform’s three most-streamed songs.
Other tracks, including “Daddy Issues,” “Softcore,” “Reflections” and “You Get Me So High,” have each surpassed 1 billion Spotify streams, extending the band’s reach to a new generation of listeners.
The band followed its debut with Wiped Out! in 2015, The Neighbourhood in 2018 and Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones in 2020. Across those releases, the group continued to develop its sound while maintaining the dark, melancholic atmosphere that became central to its identity.
After a lengthy hiatus, the five members returned to the studio and came back in 2025 with (((((ultraSOUND))))), their fifth album. The record emerged from a more spontaneous and unrestricted creative process.
Their return to live performance has been accompanied by the biggest tour of their career, including shows at major venues such as New York’s Madison Square Garden, London’s The O2 and Paris’ Accor Arena.
A new home for Release Athens
The Markopoulo Complex, located at the Olympic Properties site in Markopoulo, in the wider Athens area, will become the new setting for Release Athens. Its large footprint allows the festival to accommodate different configurations for major concerts, festivals and large-scale events.
The site will feature two stages. The second will be housed inside a 4,000-square-meter tent, allowing the festival to present more artists throughout each day.
The covered stage will also give visitors the option of arriving earlier and watching the first acts in a setting protected from the sun and designed to provide a cooler environment during the summer festival.
The venue includes extensive parking for several thousand vehicles. It can also be reached via the Attiki Odos highway, while Koropi Metro station is located nearby. Shuttle buses will operate between the station and the festival site, providing another way for visitors to reach the venue from different parts of Athens.
