Vasilis Petropoulos

Vasilis Petropoulos is an foreign affairs analyst with extensive experience across academia, think tanks, NGOs, and the private sector. He serves as a Researcher/Manager at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) in Washington, DC, focusing on U.S. government-funded projects on great power competition, economic interdependence, export controls, and sanctions evasion. He also collaborates on research examining China’s evolving role in the Middle East, particularly its relations with Iran post-October 7 attacks and the subsequent Israel-Hamas conflict. Previously, he has contributed to the International Crisis Group in Brussels, the Berghof Foundation in Berlin, and Duco Experts in Washington, DC. Notably, he represented Greece at the inaugural NATO Youth Summit in 2024 and co-authored the NATO Youth Declaration. A Fletcher School MALD graduate, ranking in the top 1% of his class, Mr. Petropoulos specialized in international security, Eurasian great power competition, and conflict resolution. He is also a seasoned author, with works published in outlets such as Foreign Affairs, Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and To Vima.
