The government spokesperson, Pavlos Marinakis, said Greece’s foreign ministry had filed an official diplomatic complaint against Albania following the publication of a map showing Greek regions as part of Albania.

Addressing a question during a scheduled presser on Monday, Marinakis swiftly rejected the map, calling it “completely a-historical,” adding it had nothing to do with reality. “Greece stresses in every direction that such publications can only create a negative impression at a time when efforts to reinforce relations between the two countries are ongoing,” Marinakis noted.

He went on to clarify that while the recently published map online depicting Greek regions as part of the so-called “Albanian nation” did not represent the Albanian government’s official policy, Greece’s foreign ministry had filed an official diplomatic remonstration.

The online map reportedly depicted areas such as the island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea, the capital city of the region of Epirus, Ioannina, and the towns of Igoumenitsa and Preveza in the same northeastern Greek region, and Grevena as part of a “greater Albania.”
