Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has convened an emergency meeting of the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) at 7 p.m. Sunday in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East following the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the deepening Iran–Israel conflict.

In his weekly post on Facebook, Mitsotakis described the regional situation as “complex and deeply concerning.” He emphasized the urgent need for restraint and the resumption of dialogue, warning that any further escalation would worsen instability in an already fragile region.

“This issue, like all other major challenges to global security architecture, will be discussed during the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague and the European Council meeting in Brussels,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister concluded by stressing that Europe must “rise to the occasion” in defense of international peace and prosperity, especially in light of the latest developments in the region.
