Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas called for decisive action and closer international cooperation in response to mounting geopolitical instability, describing the “shock of the new” as a challenge that must be actively managed rather than feared.

Speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum, Tasoulas said that the rapid changes shaping the international landscape should be seen as “a clear call to action,” stressing that the goal is not to eliminate uncertainty but to manage it in ways that strengthen security and improve future prospects.

Call for Stability in a Time of Change

Tasoulas said the current global climate demands commitment, dialogue, and cooperation at both regional and international levels in order to build a more sustainable future.

He highlighted Greece’s strategic position in the Eastern Mediterranean, noting that regional developments have made the need for stability and respect for international law increasingly urgent.

The president reaffirmed Greece’s support for the peaceful resolution of disputes and good neighbourly relations, while also calling for an end to revisionist policies by Turkey. He added that Greece is continuing to strengthen its defenses to safeguard security and stability in a highly demanding geopolitical environment.

Focus on Global Conflicts

Tasoulas also addressed ongoing international conflicts, emphasizing the importance of continued support for Ukraine and calling for de-escalation in the Middle East to allow room for diplomacy.

He reiterated Greece’s support for advancing the next phase of efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, stressing the need for a sustainable resolution.

The president also drew attention to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, describing it as “unseen but real” and warning that the international community cannot afford to ignore it.

Europe and the US Need Each Other

Turning to broader geopolitical shifts, Tasoulas said the world is undergoing profound transformation and raised questions about whether the international order established after World War II is entering a new phase.

He warned that old forms of political and military power are re-emerging, while Western nations are searching for a new balance in an increasingly uncertain world.

Tasoulas stressed that the transatlantic alliance remains essential, warning that any weakening of ties between Europe and the United States would have serious consequences.

“America needs Europe and Europe needs America,” he said, underscoring the importance of preserving cooperation between the two sides as global uncertainty grows.
