Μake us preferred on Google Two similar explosive attacks targeted businesses in Athens early Tuesday, triggering a police response in the Omonia and Agios Panteleimonas areas.
The first incident occurred at about 4:25 a.m. on Acharnon Street, near No. 70, in the Omonia area.
According to police sources, an unknown person approached a cafe that was closed at the time and used a metal grate from a manhole to break the store’s glass window.

The person then threw an object inside the business that was believed to possibly be a grenade, causing an explosion.
Second attack reported minutes later
About half an hour later, at 4:55 a.m., a similar incident was reported at the intersection of Mithimnis Street and Amerikis Square, in the Agios Panteleimonas area.
In this case, an unknown person used a manhole grate to smash the glass window of another business and then threw an explosive object inside, causing an explosion.

There is currently no assessment as to whether the object used in the second attack was a grenade or an improvised explosive device.
Police investigate
Police forces have been deployed at both locations.

A explosive disposal team also arrived to secure the areas and examine and analyze the evidence collected from the scenes.
The investigation into the identity of the person or people responsible for the attacks is ongoing.
