Ruling New Democracy (ND) party retains a comfortable lead over now second-place PASOK while lesser right-wing parties appear as gaining, in the latest opinion poll results presented on Wednesday on the prime-time newscast of Mega Channel.
The opinion poll by Metron Analysis, shows 22.9% of respondents favoring center-right ND, compared with 13.7% for socialist/social democrat PASOK. The right-wing and Euroskeptic Elliniki Lysi (Greek Solution) is now third with 7.7%, overtaking the Communist Party (KKE), with falls to 6.7%. Leftist SYRIZA party, which even won twin elections in 2015, dropped to fifth place, with 6.4%.
The surprise in the poll results is the ascendency of the newly formed Foni tis Logikis (Voice of Reason) party, founded by MEP Aphrodite Latinopoulou, which pooled 5.6%.
An extrapolation of the results gives ND 29.1%; 17.4% for PASOK; 9.8% for Elliniki Lysi; 8.5% for KKE and 8.1% for SYRIZA. The new out-of-parliament party receives 7.1%. Another four lesser parties are shown as exceeding the 3% threshold (in a general election, of valid votes) to enter Parliament.
Similar to previous such polls, two-thirds of respondents (62%) said the country is moving in the wrong direction, compared to 31% saying it was in a positive orbit.
Finally, incumbent Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis remains the top choice among the political leaders in the question of “who is best suited” for premier, with 28%, although first place goes to the answer “no one”.
