Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Greece’s finance minister and the newly appointed president of the Eurogroup, held a courtesy meeting with Archbishop Ieronymos, the head of the Greek Orthodox Church.

The meeting took place on Sunday evening at the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Athens, in what was described as a formal and symbolic visit. Such meetings are customary in Greece, reflecting the longstanding relationship between the state and the Church, particularly at moments of political transition or new responsibilities at the national or European level.

While no statements were released following the meeting, the visit comes shortly after Pierrakakis assumed his new role as president of the Eurogroup, the body that brings together the finance ministers of eurozone countries. The encounter highlighted the institutional significance of his appointment and its visibility within Greece.
