Μake us preferred on Google Athens Mayor Haris Doukas is expected to send an expert report on damage and subsidence affecting buildings in the Kypseli neighborhood to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office in the coming days.
The damage has been recorded during construction work for the extension of Athens Metro Line 4.
Doukas met with representatives of Kypseli residents at Athens City Hall on Monday amid growing concerns in the area, which have been further heightened by the resignation of Christos Karadimas, president of Elliniko Metro, the state company responsible for Greece’s metro projects.
“The report by the residents’ experts reinforces our concerns,” Doukas said, adding that he would forward the report to the prosecutor, as required.
Three conditions for the next steps
Doukas said three conditions must be met before the project moves forward:
- Immediate completion of all structural safety inspections on buildings considered critical.
- Fair restoration of all damage that has been caused.
- Safe resumption of the tunnel boring machine’s operations.
The mayor also emphasized the need for full information about how construction work will resume and the causes of the problems recorded so far.
He said it was essential to have access to the full report concerning the resumption of the tunnel boring machine’s operations, so that it is clear “what went wrong so far” and how the safe continuation of the project will be ensured.
