The Instabul riots marked the beginning of the end for the Greek community in Istanbul. Of the 100,000 Greeks living there at the time, barely more than 2,000 remain today.
At least 27 people have died after a fire broke out in the basement of central Istanbul building on Tuesday. Eight injuries have so far been reported, seven of whom are in critical condition.
This is the second terror-related attack in 2024 in the Bosporus metropolis after two masked perpetrators shot at congregants in an Italian-language Catholic Church in Istanbul during a Sunday mass last month
According to Turkish media, the shooting occurred around 11:40 am during a service, and the perpetrators are believed to be two individuals. The incident took place at an Italian church in the Sariyer district.
