A 16-year-old has been found guilty of intentional homicide in connection with the death of 17-year-old Angelos in Serres, northern Greece, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, the maximum penalty available in the case.
The decision was issued by a three-member Juvenile Court, according to information reported by ERT Serres. The prosecutor had requested that the defendant be convicted under the charge of intentional homicide under Article 299 of the Greek Penal Code.
The events leading to the teenager’s death
The incident took place on the eve of Epiphany in January 2026. Security camera footage reportedly showed the 16-year-old, who was accused of the fatal assault, moving with two friends toward the central square of Serres.
During his statement before the investigating authorities, the teenager admitted that he had struck the victim with “two or three punches and a knee strike” following an argument that had reportedly started over a girl.
According to the forensic report, the 17-year-old suffered extensive injuries to multiple parts of his body, including bruises and wounds on his head, face, chest, arms, hands and legs. The report also recorded abrasions in several areas, as well as dried blood around his nose.
Evidence from the case file and witness statements reportedly indicated that Angelos was mainly in a defensive position during the attack and did not put up significant resistance.
New footage sheds light on final moments
A newly released video from the night of the incident showed the moments following the attack, according to information presented by Greek media.
The assault reportedly occurred on January 5 at around 9:05 p.m. Three minutes later, at 9:08 p.m., security footage captured Angelos entering a gaming agency, where he attempted to clean blood from his face in the bathroom.
The footage later showed him returning home approximately 10 minutes after the attack. Shortly afterwards, he died in the basement of the apartment building where he lived.
