Heavy rain and hail transformed streets across Athens into temporary rivers on Wednesday, December 24, causing major traffic disruptions and localized power outages.
The storm, which began around midday, affected central and southern neighborhoods including Pangrati, Ilisia, Kaisariani, Vyronas, Syntagma, Nea Smyrni, Ampelokipoi, Agia Paraskevi, Ymittos-Dafni, Alimos, Pallini, and Gerakas. Rising water levels made driving extremely difficult, resulting in extensive delays across the city.

Localized issues may also occur in Western Thessaly, while the storms are forecast to extend to Macedonia, Thrace, and the northern and eastern Aegean later at night.
