The investigation into the double murder in Aigio, Greece, has taken a new turn after laboratory examinations failed to uncover decisive evidence that could help solve the case.

DNA and genetic material tests did not produce any significant findings. According to information from the investigation, no blood was found on the washed clothes of the 65-year-old Italian man who has been accused of killing his 54-year-old partner and her 26-year-old son inside their home.

Authorities also found no DNA under the suspect’s fingernails and no fingerprints on the murder weapons, including the gun and knife believed to have been used in the attack. The firearm reportedly used in the killing of the 26-year-old did not leave gunpowder traces.

Despite the lack of laboratory evidence, investigators continue to consider the 65-year-old the main suspect in the case.

Suspect denies involvement in the killings

The accused man has denied involvement from the beginning, claiming that he was asleep and did not realize what had happened.

He reportedly told authorities that after waking up, he went to the bathroom because he was suffering from an illness, then took a shower and washed and hung up personal items, including underwear and a towel.

The suspect has also claimed that “one killed the other,” but investigators say this does not match the forensic findings. Both victims were found to have suffered multiple stab wounds, according to the available information.

Authorities believe the suspect may have remained at the scene for around six hours after the crime, giving him time to potentially clean the area and alter the scene.

Police examine digital evidence

Although the forensic tests did not provide the answers investigators were seeking, the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are expected to examine mobile phones and computers found inside the home, hoping that digital records may reveal information that could shed light on the case.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly noticed a strong smell of alcohol and bleach. Investigators also found that the home’s mop and bucket were missing, raising questions over whether they may have been used to clean the area before being hidden or destroyed.

The only bloodstained fingerprints reportedly found at the scene belonged to the 54-year-old woman. Forensic findings also indicated that the 26-year-old was killed while he was asleep, according to the investigation.
