A woman with multiple sclerosis has accused an airline of insensitivity after she and her son were denied boarding on their scheduled flight. Despite having valid tickets, the airline reportedly refused them entry, citing that their luggage could not fit on the plane.

The woman shared her experience with MEGA tv, on Thursday morning, recounting her trip from Alexandroupolis to Athens for her regular medical treatment. Upon returning to the airport for her flight back to Alexandroupolis, she was informed by airline staff that their suitcases were too large to be accommodated on the aircraft, preventing them from boarding.

The woman said she suggested taking the bags with them onto the plane and finding assistance to store them in the overhead compartments, given that she was traveling with her child. She noted that they only had two suitcases and a wheelchair, which she uses for mobility.

The situation worsened when they were told they might be accommodated on the next flight. “My little one was next to me saying, ‘Mom, they’re not going to help us,’ and he started crying. I told him not to worry, that we would get on the next one. It was incredibly distressing for both of us. My health, which is heavily influenced by psychological stress, declined—I felt numbness and freezing sensations all over my body,” she said.

When she and her son tried to book seats on the next available flight, the airline staff informed them that there were no seats available. Attempting to secure tickets for the following day, she was told that because she had initially booked a discounted ticket a month in advance, the new fare would be double the price.

“If I don’t get justice, I will pursue legal action against the company. I’ve sent them an email, but I haven’t received any response,” the woman stated.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she described the experience as “incredibly harsh” and struggled to hold back tears as she recounted what happened.
