Passengers travelling through Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” should expect possible delays on Wednesday and Thursday due to scheduled technical inspections of aircraft approach systems.

The checks, carried out by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, began on Tuesday, June 9, and will continue on June 10 and 11 between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the inspections involve precision approach radio navigation systems used by aircraft. The procedure is carried out with a specialized aircraft and is part of regular technical checks performed periodically at airports.

Possible delays of up to one hour

Due to the temporary reduction in air traffic capacity during the inspections, delays are expected for both arrivals and departures after 3:00 pm.

Authorities estimate that delays could range between 45 and 60 minutes. They also warned that reduced traffic flow may create a wider “domino effect”, potentially affecting the overall flight schedule.

The technical checks are expected to continue as planned through Thursday afternoon.
