Three men were arrested late on Wednesday following a police chase on Kifissias Avenue after a shooting in central Athens left a shop owner wounded.

Police had launched a manhunt for suspects allegedly involved in a shooting at a mobile phone store on central Patission Street at around 6:30 p.m.

According to reports, an unidentified gunman entered the store at 274 Patission Street and shot the owner, believed to be of Pakistani origin, in the legs. The suspect then fled in a gray vehicle carrying three other individuals.

Authorities said police were immediately alerted and began searching for the vehicle. Two suspects were arrested after the fleeing car crashed into oncoming vehicles during the pursuit. Two others escaped on foot.

Police later arrested another man near the crash scene who is also believed to be connected to the incident.

The injured shop owner was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been made public.

The shooting follows a string of recent gun-related incidents in Athens. On Tuesday, a 57-year-old man shot his 53-year-old wife in an Athens suburb before taking his own life. Last week, a 58-year-old man opened fire inside a nightclub in Kallithea, injuring a 43-year-old female employee.
