Greece’s largest and most historic port city, Piraeus, will usher in its Christmas and New Year’s series of events on Friday with the lighting of the municipality’s Christmas tree in front of the Municipal Theater.

The tree-lighting ceremony will be officiated by Piraeus Mayor Yannis Moralis, with the accompaniment of the municipality’s philharmonic orchestra, the children’s choirs of the Orthodox Holy Metropolis of Piraeus and other local bands.

A program of live performances will follow, headed by Panos Kiamos and presented by Roula Koromila.

The 16-meter fir three comes from the northern prefecture of Halkidiki and will be adorned with 100,000 led lights and thousands of ornaments.

The entire event will be livestreamed by the Kanali 1 TV station’s YouTube and Facebook accounts.
