Crete Woman Remanded Over Torture Case

A 42-year-old Romanian woman has been placed in pre-trial detention after authorities found videos allegedly showing the abuse of a 55-year-old woman in a home in Heraklion, Crete.

A 42-year-old woman from Romania has been remanded in custody in connection with the violent abuse of a 55-year-old woman in the Agia Triada area of Heraklion, Crete.

The woman appeared before an investigating magistrate and, after giving her statement, was ordered to remain in temporary detention while the investigation continues.

The case came to light during an investigation into another matter, when police officers discovered videos on the 42-year-old’s mobile phone that showed acts of violence against the 55-year-old.

Police found 11 videos on suspect’s phone

According to authorities, investigators found 11 videos containing disturbing footage. The recordings show the 55-year-old being struck on the head with a stick and having her hair cut with an axe, while threats and insults can also be heard.

Police said the evidence suggests the 55-year-old may have been subjected to repeated abuse over an extended period of time. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attacks and the recording of the videos.

Following the discovery, relevant services located the 55-year-old woman and began a full investigation into the case.

Authorities investigate possible involvement of homeowner

During the preliminary investigation, authorities seized items believed to be connected to the case. Police are also examining the possible role of a 60-year-old man who owns the property where the incidents are believed to have taken place.
