The incident comes amid a growing number of serious e-scooter accidents reported across Greece in recent months, particularly in tourist-heavy areas and urban centers. Media reports over the past month has highlighted rising concern among medical professionals, traffic police and local authorities over inadequate enforcement of helmet use, speeding, nighttime riding and the widespread operation of rental scooters in areas with poor road infrastructure.

Several recent accidents involving tourists and young riders have reignited debate over whether the state should adopt stricter regulations governing electric scooters, including mandatory helmet laws, age restrictions and tighter oversight of rental operators.
