A serious incident at a hotel in Ammoudara, on the Greek island of Crete, has been attributed by authorities to an intense outburst of jealousy. The incident is under investigation.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a 25-year-old German woman in critical condition with severe injuries. According to reports, she was unable to speak and was experiencing difficulty breathing.
She was immediately transported by ambulance to Venizeleio Hospital in Heraklion, where she remains hospitalized. Her 19-year-old boyfriend, also a German national, was at the scene and had sustained less serious facial injuries.
The Relationship Behind the Confrontation
According to Cretalive.gr, the violent incident involved the woman’s former boyfriend, a 27-year-old German national. The two had been in a relationship for approximately six years, during which the woman had reportedly described previous incidents of violence.
The couple separated in February. After the breakup, the 27-year-old traveled to Thailand for kickboxing training, while the 25-year-old began a new relationship with the 19-year-old.
A Vacation That Turned Into a Nightmare
The young woman had traveled to Crete for a vacation with her new partner and was staying at a hotel in Ammoudara. However, one detail from her previous relationship proved crucial.
The 25-year-old and her former partner still shared a joint email account. Through it, the 27-year-old was reportedly notified of an online food delivery order that included the hotel’s address and room number.
The Hotel Intrusion
After learning where his former girlfriend was staying, the 27-year-old traveled to Crete immediately. After locating the hotel, he reportedly climbed over the pool fence and made his way to the suite where the couple was staying.
The 19-year-old tried to force him to leave, but according to the complaints, the 27-year-old—now trained in martial arts—struck him and knocked him to the ground. He then attacked the woman, inflicting serious injuries.
Her boyfriend attempted to help her, leading to another confrontation. The suspect managed to flee temporarily, but officers from the Police Department located him about an hour later as he was preparing to leave the area.
The Charges and His Defense
The 27-year-old German national is facing felony charges and has been granted until Tuesday to testify before the investigating magistrate in Heraklion.
Following his arrest, he claimed he had no intention of injuring his former girlfriend.
According to his statement, he traveled to Crete “only to talk,” as their relationship had ended via email. He admitted it was wrong to enter the hotel grounds by crossing the perimeter fence but insisted he simply wanted to approach her.
To explain the woman’s injuries, he claimed that she slipped near the swimming pool and that they both fell, denying that he assaulted her.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, while the 25-year-old remains under close medical supervision. The 19-year-old did not require hospitalization.
