A 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody following his testimony before an investigating magistrate over the case of his 28-year-old wife, a mother of four, who remains hospitalized at the University General Hospital of Heraklion after suffering critical injuries when she fell from the family car in the Pantanassa area of Crete last Saturday afternoon. The husband is accused of deliberately running over the woman.
Speaking on behalf of the defense, the accused man’s lawyer said the decision to detain his client was respected, while insisting that the 30-year-old denies any involvement in the incident.
“There is one single truth: the defendant carried out no action whatsoever that led to her injury,” the lawyer said, adding that his client is awaiting his wife’s testimony, which he claims “will fully restore the truth.”
Latest Updates on the 28-Year-Old’s Condition
At the same time, the 28-year-old woman remains hospitalized, though her condition is said to be improving. Reports indicate that she is suffering from post-traumatic amnesia and cannot remember the circumstances surrounding her injuries.

The lawyer representing the woman’s family said the evidence points to very different conclusions, stressing that “it is easy to understand that this cannot be an accident” and that “the findings indicate the possibility of criminal activity.”
He noted that while the woman’s condition is stable, she is still not able to give a formal statement. That testimony is expected in the coming days and is considered crucial to the course of the investigation.
He also said that the possibility of questioning the couple’s eldest minor child — who was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident — will be decided by the investigating magistrate. Should such questioning be ordered, he noted, it will be conducted in accordance with legal procedures and in the presence of a specialist.
“He Was Acting — Pretending to Cry”
The woman’s mother said that despite her daughter’s critical condition, the 28-year-old managed to whisper in the presence of a police officer that “a car ran over her” and that an argument had taken place beforehand.
She said the 30-year-old called her on the phone and simply told her: “Gogo fell out of the car. The door opened and she fell.”
When she arrived at the scene, she found him in a state of panic, but claimed he failed to provide clear explanations about how her daughter ended up bleeding heavily on the road.
The mother further alleged that the 30-year-old had displayed violent behavior in the past. “He once kicked me and knocked me to the ground while I had undergone surgery just 10 days earlier,” she said, also confirming that her daughter had repeatedly been the victim of physical abuse by him.
The family’s side, including the mother, completely rejects the husband’s claims that the incident was caused either by an “accident” or a “technical problem with the door,” instead alleging criminal involvement.
Authorities Continue Investigation
Investigators are also focusing on the damaged bumper of the van after the injured woman was found, as well as the husband’s claims that he had been involved in a traffic accident earlier that same afternoon — an incident that, so far, has not been verified.
Those claims, combined with earlier footage showing the bumper intact before the incident, have raised further questions among police officers leading the investigation.
Authorities are analyzing evidence and security camera footage in an effort to fully clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s extremely serious injuries.
