Illegal Camps With Solar Panels Found on Halkidiki Beaches

Vacationers had set up unauthorized campsites, complete with solar panels and gas canisters, on two beaches in Sithonia

An organized operation took place today on the Kriaritsi and Aretes beaches in the Toroni municipal district of Sithonia, Halkidiki, with the participation of the Greek Police, aimed at removing unauthorized campsites and structures set up on the shoreline.

During the operation, according to halkidikifocus.gr, tents, makeshift structures, and other equipment that had been illegally placed on the site were removed. Gas canisters and other materials were also found, creating additional safety risks for the public and the natural environment.

The Municipality of Sithonia said in a statement that Sithonia’s beaches belong to everyone, and that free access, safety, cleanliness, and respect for the natural environment are non-negotiable priorities. It added that inspections and operations to remove unauthorized campsites will continue wherever necessary across the municipality.
