A rescue operation was launched earlier today on Mount Olympus to assist an injured woman near the “Christos Kakkalos” mountain refuge. The incident prompted an immediate response from Greek emergency services, highlighting the challenges of mountain rescues in one of Greece’s most iconic natural landmarks.
Helicopter Deployed by Fire Brigade
The Hellenic Fire Service Operations Center received a distress call in the early morning hours. In response, a helicopter was dispatched with two specialized firefighters from the 2nd Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK).
Before the helicopter’s arrival, the injured woman was stabilized and carried to a more accessible location by members of the Hellenic Rescue Team (E.O.D.) and the Hellenic Mountaineering Club (E.O.S.). From there, she was airlifted to the helipad of the 24th Brigade in Litochoro.
Final Transfer to Medical Care
Upon landing, the woman was transferred by ambulance from the National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAV) for further medical treatment. Her current condition has not been disclosed.
