The 41-year-old is expected to appear before the investigating magistrate today. According to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, testimony from neighbors who said they heard the woman calling for help before contacting police, along with evidence gathered at the scene, where the victim was found with multiple injuries to her body and head, has introduced new elements to the investigation.
The accused told police that he woke up to find his wife standing over the bed threatening him with a knife, claiming that he reacted in self-defense during a moment of intense confrontation.
However, according to reports, police and forensic sources state that the 41-year-old has not sustained a single injury that would indicate a struggle took place.
Instead, the discovery of the knife in the victim’s left hand has reinforced investigators’ belief that the suspect placed the weapon there after the killing in an attempt to mislead authorities. The couple’s two children, aged 6 and 10, were reportedly in the next room at the time.
The crime came to light when the 39-year-old’s desperate cries for help alerted residents of the apartment building. Despite the swift response of police, officers arriving at the scene found the woman already dead on the bedroom floor and her husband with bloodstains on his clothing.
The two children were immediately taken to the city’s hospital to receive psychological support and care.
According to information available so far, the victim worked occasionally in hotels in the city. She loved dancing and maintained an active presence on social media, frequently posting videos.
Relatives have spoken of constant arguments and tension between the couple in recent months. No one, however, believed the situation would end in tragedy.
The 41-year-old accountant faces serious charges, including intentional homicide, while authorities await the findings of the forensic examination, which is expected to shed further light on the details of the killing.
