Dressed in black, Queen Rania stood alongside the relatives of those killed in last Friday’s attack on a Greek Orthodox church in Jordan, offering what comfort she could in their hour of grief. She was joined by her daughter, Princess Salma, and her daughter-in-law, Princess Rajwa, who took part in the gathering held in solidarity with the bereaved families.

In one of the most striking moments, the queen embraces the daughter of one of the victims, tenderly holding her hands. In another video, a woman who lost a loved one breaks down in tears in Rania’s arms as the queen stays close by, visibly shaken by her anguish.

Footage of the visit spread widely on social media, capturing the sorrow that has gripped the region. For the families, the queen’s presence carried particular weight, coming just days after the tragedy, while their loss is still raw.

The deadly assault took place on Friday, October 23, at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in the village of Hamoud, during a funeral service. Gunmen opened fire on the mourners, killing nine people and wounding dozens more. In the early hours of Monday, October 26, Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects in a targeted operation.

Queen Rania had voiced her grief within hours of the attack, writing in a public post that the pain of losing the victims was shared by all of Jordanian society. Her visit to Hamoud was a further, tangible gesture of support for a community now facing the weight of such a devastating loss.
