The Municipality of Agios Dimitrios has announced that its October 28 parade is canceled due to the bad weather expected in Attica. All parades marking the anniversary have also been canceled in the Dodecanese.

According to the municipality’s announcement, the decision was made “with the safety of students, participants and citizens in mind.”

The municipality clarified that the scheduled doxology at the Church of Agios Dimitrios will go ahead as planned, and flag bearers from each school are asked to arrive at the scheduled time.

The municipality noted that, according to the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for many parts of the country on Wednesday, October 28, with possible local hailstorms.

Civil Protection has placed the state mechanism on heightened alert. A Red Code mobilization has been activated for Attica.

Parades Also Canceled in the Dodecanese

Minas Papadakis, Civil Protection Coordinator for the South Aegean Region, announced that all student parades for the October 28 anniversary in the Dodecanese have been canceled for safety reasons.

Speaking to ERT South Aegean, he said the decision was made because of the increased risk of flooding.

The Dodecanese remain on heightened alert due to the bad weather, with a red warning in effect for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 28.

In Thessaloniki, the chance of rain during the military parade is low. Some local showers may occur early in the morning, but the bad weather is expected to ease before the parade begins, with sunny spells in the city center.
