A 58-year-old man has died after falling into a ravine in northern Greece, in an incident that triggered a large-scale rescue operation.

The accident occurred in the coastal area of Angelochori, near Thessaloniki, where the man had reportedly gone for a walk with his dog.

Fall from height in remote terrain

According to initial information, the man fell from a height of approximately 40 meters under unclear circumstances. The location was difficult to access, complicating efforts to locate and rescue him.

Concern was raised when his dog returned home alone, prompting relatives to alert authorities.

Major rescue operation

Emergency services quickly launched a coordinated search and rescue mission involving specialized units, coast guard personnel and volunteers.

Rescuers eventually located the man at the bottom of the ravine, severely injured. He was successfully retrieved and transported by boat to a nearby port, where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to hospital.

Succumbed to injuries

The man was taken to AHEPA University Hospital, where doctors made efforts to save his life. However, he later died from his injuries.
