One woman was reportedly slightly injured following an attack by a group of individuals at the Polytechnic campus in Athens on Monday evening.

A police operation is underway to determine the details of the attack, while the female is reportedly an employee at the canteen of the School of Mechanical Engineering.

The incident occurred when the group of youths refused the canteen worker’s request to keep the area free of political flyers and assaulted her. Before the incident, they had clashed with members of a rival student group, briefly turning the university grounds into a battleground.

Reports suggest the masked assailants also vandalized a bus operating a regular route within the campus. They hurled stones and other objects at the vehicle, according to the bus driver.

SYRIZA has called for the resignation of Minister for Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, stating that his departure is now “imperative” following the latest incident of violence that took place at the Polytechnic University campus.

The attack came four days after a violent assault during a career day at the Law School at the University of Athens, which left one student injured.

On Wednesday, a group of five hooded individuals forcibly entered the first floor of the law school building and launched a violent assault in front of students and faculty members.

The attack occurred during a break in the event, which featured multiple guest speakers and was intended to support students’ professional development. Eyewitnesses described the incident as a sudden and coordinated raid.

The attack today highlights the serious failings university campuses in Greece face regarding security and safety, especially in light of the current government’s staunch promises to address the long-standing problem.
