A 35-year-old Greek driver has been arrested on the island of Mykonos after stealing a luxury Hermès handbag and a Rolex watch belonging to a Ukrainian tourist, with the items’ total estimated value reported at €75,000.
The case was investigated following a complaint filed with the Hellenic Police. According to the investigation, the incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, August 4, when the suspect transported a 29-year-old Ukrainian tourist in his vehicle for an agreed payment.
Police said the driver kept the passenger’s bag and its contents as a form of guarantee until the fare was paid. Shortly before reaching their destination, the driver took advantage of the tourist briefly leaving the vehicle, abandoned him and drove away while keeping his personal belongings.
Later the same day, police officers located the 35-year-old suspect. The stolen items — a handbag and a watch — were also found in an outdoor area, with their combined value estimated at €75,000.
A case file was filed against the suspect on charges of misappropriation, and he was taken before the Prosecutor’s Office of Syros.
