Μake us preferred on Google A nationwide preliminary investigation into possible criminal acts linked to wind power installations has been ordered by the supervising prosecutor of the Arson Crimes Response Directorate (DAEE), following consultation with the Supreme Court Prosecutor.
The order was issued in connection with the major fire in Boeotia, which is already the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation, as well as in light of other incidents of fires breaking out at wind farm sites.
The Boeotia fire spread over a wide area and caused serious damage, prompting the decision to examine similar installations across the country.
As part of the preliminary investigation, DAEE has been tasked with determining whether wind power installations exist and operate nationwide without the required permits, and whether they meet the technical standards required for installation, maintenance and operation.
A specific part of the investigation concerns wind farms that authorities have previously dealt with due to fire incidents.
To gather the necessary evidence, investigators will request information from relevant authorities and agencies. Where needed, expert assessments and other investigative measures will be carried out to determine whether technical and administrative requirements have been met and whether any criminal liability exists.
The Arson Crimes Response Directorate’s investigation is ongoing.
