PPC group, Greece’s dominant power utility, on Monday announced an unprecedented strategic partnership with Georgetown University to establish a new higher education legal entity in the east Mediterranean country, a development that comes after recent legislation allowed non-state higher education institutions to operate as recognized – by the Greek state – subsidiaries of foreign universities in the country.
Georgetown University has submitted an application to establish a “Georgetown University Greece – University Legal Entity” (Georgetown University in Greece), with the aim of commencing operations in the fall of 2026, the leaderships of the power utility and the Washington D.C.-based university said on Monday.
PPC Group will be the sole partner of the new entity, facilitating Georgetown’s presence in Greece.
Subject to obtaining the necessary approvals from the relevant education ministry, Georgetown University plans to offer two of its most successful graduate programs in Greece: the executive master’s in leadership through the McDonough School of Business, followed by the M.S. in environment and sustainability management, a collaboration between the McDonough School of Business and the Earth Commons – Georgetown’s Institute for Environment & Sustainability.
The two programs are primarily aimed at senior Greek business executives, including executives from the PPC Group.
Both programs are accredited by AACSB, and Georgetown will have exclusive authority over admissions decisions and the curriculum. The courses, designed for working professionals, will be held in Athens, delivered in English, and will conclude with an intensive, in-person residency period and graduation ceremony in Washington, D.C.
