Severe weather has caused extensive damage across the Municipality of Amfikleia-Elateia in central Greece, affecting agricultural areas, private property and local roads, according to a statement from municipal authorities.

The municipality said it has been facing particularly intense weather conditions since the early afternoon, resulting in widespread destruction to crops, significant damage to properties and serious problems in several areas.

“The consequences of the bad weather are particularly serious, as years of hard work have been completely destroyed,” the municipality said, adding that fallen trees and debris have blocked sections of the municipal and rural road network, making travel and access to affected areas difficult.

Municipal crews and machinery, working alongside regional authorities’ equipment, have been operating continuously in multiple locations to restore traffic flow and address problems affecting both local and agricultural roads.

Damage Assessment Underway

A team from the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA) office in Lamia, led by director Rania Stafyli, was scheduled to carry out inspections in several communities, including Amfikleia, Drymaia, Paleochori Dorion, Agia Marina and Tithorea.

The inspections aim to determine the full extent of the damage, record losses and begin procedures for supporting those affected.

The municipality said it remains on heightened alert and continues to coordinate with all relevant authorities as the severe weather conditions remain ongoing.

Officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise extreme caution and follow instructions from authorities, emphasizing the need to protect lives and property.
