Greece will enjoy widespread sunshine on Wednesday, January 14, with further warming during the day across the country. While conditions will be largely stable and pleasant, travelers should be aware of frost overnight and early in the morning, as well as fog and reduced visibility during the morning and especially the evening hours.
Sunny weather is expected nationwide, with only a few clouds developing over Thrace, the Aegean Sea, and mountainous mainland areas. Frost will form overnight and early in the morning across mainland regions. During the morning and more notably in the evening, fog and locally limited visibility are likely in many areas.
Temperatures (in Celsius) will range as follows:
- Western Macedonia: -8°C to 8°C
- Rest of Macedonia and Thrace: -4°C to 10–12°C
- Nevrokopi Plateau: minimums near -10°C
- Thessaly and Epirus: -3°C to 11–13°C
- Other mainland regions: -2°C to 12–15°C
- Ionian Islands: 0°C to 12–14°C
- Northern and Northeastern Aegean Islands: 1°C to 12°C
- Remaining Aegean islands and Crete: 5°C to 14–16°C
Winds in both the Aegean and Ionian seas will blow from northwesterly directions and will not exceed 4 Beaufort, allowing generally calm marine conditions.
Athens (Attica): Sunny skies are expected throughout the day. During the evening hours, visibility may become limited due to fog. Winds will be westerly at 2 to 3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 5°C to 14°C, with lower minimums in northern suburbs.
Thessaloniki: Sunshine will prevail. Reduced visibility is expected overnight and early in the morning, with fog possibly forming again in the evening. Northwest winds will blow at 2 to 3 Beaufort. Temperatures will range from 2°C to 11°C, with colder conditions in areas surrounding the city.
Early morning and nighttime travelers should allow extra time due to frost and fog, particularly across inland and northern regions.
