A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized after being violently assaulted by two other teenagers in the city of Heraklion, in an incident that police say was recorded on a mobile phone by another student.

According to the authorities, the attack took place on Saturday evening after the three girls arranged to meet in order to settle personal differences. Instead, the meeting escalated into a violent assault.

Police said the 15-year-old victim was repeatedly punched and kicked by two girls, aged 14 and 16, before being taken to hospital as a precaution. She was later discharged.

Investigators also say that another 15-year-old girl filmed the assault on her mobile phone and, according to witness statements, encouraged the attackers during the incident.

Two Arrested, Third Suspect Sought

Police arrested the 14-year-old attacker and the 15-year-old who recorded the video. The 16-year-old suspect was not apprehended before the expiration of the period allowing an arrest under Greece’s summary criminal procedure.

The parents of the two arrested girls were also detained but were later released.

Officers seized the teenagers’ mobile phones, while the case has been assigned to the Juvenile Protection Unit of the Heraklion Police Directorate.

The two arrested minors are expected to appear before a prosecutor and face trial under the expedited legal process.

According to the report, hospital staff notified police after treating the injured teenager, prompting the investigation.
