The Municipality of Thessaloniki is launching its annual free beach trips program for senior residents, offering 600 members of its senior citizens’ community centers the opportunity to enjoy seaside outings throughout August.

The initiative, organized through the municipality’s deputy mayor’s office for senior welfare, aims to promote social participation, wellbeing and quality of life for older residents.

Three-week program in August

The program will run from August 10 to August 28, 2026, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with free transportation provided to and from Potamos Epanomis, a popular beach near Thessaloniki.

The beach outings will be divided into three separate periods:

Up to four buses will operate during each period. Participants may indicate their preferred week when registering, although their choice cannot be guaranteed.

Eligibility and registration

Registration will take place at the municipality’s senior community centers. If applications exceed the available places, participants will be selected based on financial criteria.

To take part, applicants must:

  • Be registered members of a municipal senior community center for 2026.
  • Submit a medical certificate issued by an internist, cardiologist or general practitioner.
  • Sign a declaration provided by the community center.
  • Present a copy of their 2025 tax assessment notice, which will be used solely to verify financial eligibility and will not be retained by the municipality.
