Residents in parts of Thessaloniki have expressed concern over the presence of a pack of around 20 dogs roaming the streets, particularly in the areas of Pylaia, Toumba and Kalamaria.

According to residents, the dogs usually appear during evening hours, leading some people to avoid walking outside after sunset. They claim there have been incidents in which members of the pack chased or attacked passersby.

The reports have caused growing unease in the affected neighborhoods, with residents calling for additional measures to address the situation.

Previous efforts to manage the pack

According to Greek public broadcaster ERT, the Municipality of Thessaloniki had previously worked with the municipalities of Kalamaria and Pylaia-Hortiatis to tackle the issue.

The efforts included actions aimed at breaking up the pack, carrying out sterilizations and removing the animals from areas where they were gathering.

However, residents say the dogs have repeatedly returned to the same locations, renewing fears and concerns among the local community.

Frustrated by the continued presence of the animals, residents have started collecting signatures calling on local authorities to introduce faster and more effective measures to ensure public safety.
