Turkish customs officers blocked a freezer truck from entering Greece at the Kipi border crossing in the Evros region on the Greek-Turkish border after the guards found it was carrying a cache of weapons.
According to reports, the truck was ostensibly transporting fish into Greece, but upon a spot inspection, border guards discovered 30 arms hidden among the produce.
The truck driver, a Turkish national, was reportedly trying to pass into Greece, although it is unclear if it was his final destination or if he was in transit. Turkish authorities notified the Greek customs officers of the incident.
Meanwhile, a Turkish suspect linked with the double homicide of two of his compatriots in Glyfada about a year ago has been arrested, based on a warrant issued against him.
The man was arrested last March when he was found to be in possession of a small quantity of drugs. He was subsequently detained for administrative deportation, as he did not have valid documents.
During the course of the Hellenic Police’s investigation, it was determined that the vehicle he had been driving was involved in the Glyfada shootout.
The arrested individual is believed to have transported the perpetrators.
