Greek police have arrested two men, aged 68 and 72, on charges of fatal exposure following the death of a 72-year-old man who suffered fatal injuries while attempting to steal cables from a transformer in Agios Stefanos, northern Athens.
The case came to light on Saturday afternoon when officers from the DIAS motorcycle police unit found the man’s body in the back seats of a parked vehicle in Ano Liosia. The victim had injuries to his head and torso.
According to the police investigation, the 72-year-old had gone with the two arrested men to Agios Stefanos the previous night with the intention of removing cables from a transformer.
During the alleged theft, authorities said the man suffered an electric shock and fell from a height, causing serious injuries.
The two men then placed him in a vehicle and abandoned him in Ano Liosia, where he was later found dead.
Police said investigations into the full circumstances of the incident are continuing.

According to the Hellenic Police announcement, the two Greek nationals, aged 68 and 72, were arrested in the morning of August 4, 2026, following arrest warrants issued in connection with the charge of fatal exposure.
Police said DIAS officers were dispatched to Ano Liosia on the afternoon of August 1, 2026, following an alert from the police operations center. They found the body of the 72-year-old man in the rear seats of a parked vehicle, with injuries to his head and torso.
A preliminary investigation by the Western Attica Crime Investigation Subdivision, combined with the evaluation of available information and evidence, indicated that the suspects had been with the victim in Agios Stefanos late on July 31, 2026.
