Greek police have arrested two men in Western Attica on suspicion of drug trafficking, after seizing more than 18 kilograms of hydroponically grown cannabis, as well as a small quantity of cocaine and a firearm.
The arrests were carried out by officers during an operation in the wider Western Attica area.
Authorities said the suspects, a 37-year-old and a 64-year-old, were arrested after police gathered and analyzed information regarding their involvement in drug trafficking activities in the wider Attica region.
According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), officers first located the 37-year-old carrying a homemade package containing one gram of raw hydroponic cannabis, intended for distribution on behalf of the 64-year-old.
A subsequent search of a residence led to the discovery and seizure of 26 plastic packages containing hydroponically cultivated cannabis, commonly known as SKUNK, with a total weight of 18 kilograms and 377 grams.
Police later located the 64-year-old at another residence, where he was found in possession of a homemade plastic package containing 1.1 grams of cocaine, also reportedly intended for distribution, as well as a blank-firing pistol with a magazine.
During searches of the residences, authorities seized:
- 18 kilograms and 378 grams of hydroponically cultivated cannabis (SKUNK)
- 1.1 grams of cocaine
- A blank-firing pistol with a magazine
- Two private vehicles
- €2,500 in cash
- A precision electronic scale
- Two mobile phones
Police said the investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities and to identify any additional quantities of drugs or possible accomplices.
The two men, against whom a case file was prepared, were taken before the competent prosecutorial authorities. ELAS noted that both suspects had previously come to the attention of authorities for similar and other offenses.
