Μake us preferred on Google Greek fire investigators have arrested two men in connection with the wildfire that broke out on Wednesday, September 2, in the Mytikas area of the Municipality of Thebes in Boeotia.
The blaze erupted at around 1:45 p.m. and, according to initial estimates, burned approximately 3,000 300 hectares of land.
A team from the Fire Service’s Arson Crimes Directorate was dispatched immediately to investigate the cause of the fire. The preliminary findings indicate that the blaze started during vegetation-clearing work at a local solar park, where a mulching machine was being used. The fire spread rapidly soon after it ignited.
Under Greece’s expedited legal procedure for offenses committed in the act, two workers, aged 53 and 45, were arrested. They remain in custody and are due to appear before the competent public prosecutor on Thursday.
Following the arrests, the Fire Service urged the public to exercise extreme caution while weather conditions continue to favor the ignition and rapid spread of wildfires.
It stressed that on days classified as carrying a high or very high fire risk, any outdoor work that could generate sparks, overheating or open flames should be avoided, particularly the use of agricultural machinery, mulching equipment, grinding tools and other mechanical equipment unless all required fire safety measures are fully in place.
