Two Indian nationals, aged 20 and 24, appeared before a judicial investigator in Nafplio on Thursday, August 6, over allegations that they murdered a 59-year-old psychologist in the southern Greek city.
The two suspects were brought before the investigator after receiving additional time for the 20-year-old defendant’s lawyer, Panagiotis Beskas, to review the case file and prepare the defense strategy.
Tensions rose as the suspects arrived at the courthouse, with relatives and friends of the victim reportedly shouting “murderers,” according to local media reports.
The disappearance and investigation
The case began on the night of July 25, when a close relative of the victim reported his disappearance to the Nafplio Department for the Investigation and Prosecution of Crimes.
A nine-day search operation followed, involving the Hellenic Police, the Fire Service, Greece’s Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), the Coast Guard, the Hellenic Rescue Team of Argolis, and numerous volunteers.
The search ended on August 2, when the victim’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition in a rural area near Kandia, in the Argolis region.
According to police announcements, the two suspects entered the 59-year-old man’s vehicle on the night of July 24. After traveling to an area within the Municipality of Nafplio, they reportedly immobilized the psychologist and fatally stabbed him.
Authorities said the suspects then took money and the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing in his vehicle, which they later abandoned on a hill near their homes.
Suspects deny responsibility for the fatal attack
The two foreign nationals were arrested on August 2 in Attica following a coordinated operation involving the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Authorities have filed charges against them for homicide, robbery, and violations of weapons laws.
Although the two suspects admitted involvement in the crime during questioning, they have reportedly blamed each other and denied being the person who carried out the fatal attack.
