Winter has officially hit the country since yesterday, with snow already having fallen in Evia, the Peloponnese and Crete. From the afternoon onwards today, snowfall is expected in Attica as well, with the areas most likely to be affected including Dionysos, Ekali, Rodopoli, Drosia, Penteli, Drafi, Thrakomakedones, Kryoneri, Anoixi, Agios Stefanos, Fyli, Vilia and possibly Kifisia, as well as other surrounding areas.

The most intense phenomena however are expected tomorrow.

Meetings are to be held on a frequent basis to ensure safety on, and smooth operation of, roads. Municipalities in the northern Attica region are distributing salt to the residents, while an emergency drill was conducted in Penteli.

An official statement was released yesterday evening making it mandatory for all vehicles in the Attica region to be equipped with snow chains or similar devices starting today at 22:00.

Schools in Evia have already announced they will remain closed until Wednesday (included), while municipalities around Attica, especially those in the northern part of the region, will be on standby to make similar decisions depending on how the weather progresses.
