Stefanos Tsitsipas continued his good performances as the Greek tennis star booked a spot in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Tennis Open (ATP 500) after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over American Sebastian Korda, prevailing 7-6(4), 6-4 in just over an hour and a half.
The Greek tennis star, ranked 16th in the ATP Rankings, was pushed to his limits, particularly in the opening set, which saw both players hold serve throughout, taking the set into a tiebreak. The Greek raised his level, edging Korda 7-4 to take a crucial one-set lead.
In the second set, Tsitsipas struck early, breaking Korda in the third game to go up 3-1. While the American continued to apply pressure, Tsitsipas showed composure and tactical discipline, holding his ground to close out the set 6-4 and seal the win in straight sets.
With this victory, the world No. 16 continues his campaign in Catalonia, aiming to collect valuable ATP points as he looks to climb back up the global rankings.
The Greek player will face French Arthur Fils, 20, in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
