The Athens International Airport (AIA) posted a rise in international and domestic passenger traffic in September 2025, compared to the same month last year, according to official data.

In more detail, the number of passengers transiting the AIA totaled 3.48 million, representing a 5.4% increase.

Domestic and international passenger traffic recorded growth, exceeding 2024 levels by 2.6% and 6.6%, respectively.

During the first nine months of 2025, total traffic at Athens International Airport reached 26.19 million passengers, marking an overall increase of 6.7%. Domestic and international passenger traffic rose by 2.2% and 8.5%, respectively.

The number of flights at Athens International Airport during the same period amounted to 219,297, representing a 5.6% increase compared to 2024. Domestic flights rose by 1.0%, while international flights increased by 8.8% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Greek tourism also showed strong signs in the first seven months of 2025, building on the successes of 2024 and confirming its continued vital contribution to the national economy — at a time when little can be taken for granted globally.

According to a study by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE), Greece remains one of the most desirable destinations in key markets: No. 3 in Germany, France, and Italy, No. 5 in the United Kingdom, and No. 6 among European destinations for the U.S. market.
