Greece continues to be high on European travelers’ bucket lists for 2027, with nearly three in 10 saying they intend to visit by next May, according to a study conducted by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

The findings show that 29% of travelers surveyed across Europe, said they intend to visit Greece by May 2027, placing the country among the most sought-after destinations in the survey, behind Romania at 45%, Italy at 38% and Sweden at 37%.

Of those polled, more than half (58%) said they had already traveled to Greece, while 42% were planning to visit for the first time.

GNTO analysts note that the figures demonstrate a strong demand for the country but also a significant segment of repeat visitors.

In the same study, 35% of respondents said they were planning to travel to Greece between September and November 2026. In fact, September was the favorite option for 23% of travelers.

As for reasons to visit, the vast majority cited the variety of experiences on offer (83%), and the friendly and hospitable residents (82%), while 77% cited safety, and 75% the quality of tourist infrastructure. Ranked lower was value for money at 67%.

The first segment of a three-part rolling market survey, carried out by the GNTO in collaboration with Mindhaus, was conducted online between June 10 and 22, on a sample of 7,896 travelers aged 18 to 64. The survey covers 10 European markets (United Kingdom, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Romania).

“The first findings confirm that Greece maintains a strong position in the travel intentions of Europeans, gaining both the trust of those who have already visited and the interest of new audiences,” said Andreas Fiorentinos, Secretary General GNTO. He went on to stress the importance of travel interest beyond the peak summer season as well as references to the diverse experiences on offer.
