French President Emmanuel Macron used social media to underscore the strengthening relationship between France and Greece during his official visit to Athens, combining cultural symbolism and military imagery in two separate posts.

One post featured the phrase “Greece–France alliance” and was accompanied by the song “Ego ki esy mazi” (“You and I Together”), performed by Tzimis Panousis and Randy Newman. The lyrics, which speak of unity and mutual support, were widely interpreted as a reference to the close bilateral relationship between the two countries.

In a second post, Macron focused on his visit to the Greek Navy frigate Kimon, which he toured alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Visit to the frigate Kimon

During the visit, Macron described the vessel as a symbol of the strategic partnership linking France and Greece, noting that it reflects the strength of their renewed cooperation.

The frigate, built in France and acquired by Greece, was presented as an example of joint capability and shared defense interests. Macron highlighted that its recent deployment alongside a French naval vessel demonstrated the two countries’ ability to operate together in the Mediterranean and beyond, contributing to European security and stability.

He also extended wishes to the ship’s crew, expressing support for their mission and emphasizing the vessel’s symbolic importance for bilateral defense ties.

Greek and French officials aboard the ship, including defense and military leadership from both countries, were given a tour of operational areas of the frigate during the visit.

The twitter post reads:

“On board the frigate Kimon.

Built in Lorient, this defense and intervention frigate, acquired by Greece, demonstrates the strength of the strategic partnership that unites our two countries and which we are renewing today.

The recent deployment of Kimon in Cyprus, alongside the Languedoc, shows that we are able to act together, in the Mediterranean as well as elsewhere, for the security and stability of our Europe, the protection of our citizens and our interests.

Europeans, reliable partners, friends.

Fair winds and following seas to Kimon!”

A message of unity and cooperation

Across both posts, Macron emphasized themes of friendship, solidarity and coordinated action. He described the France–Greece relationship as one of close partnership between “reliable allies and friends,” underlining their shared commitment to security, European cooperation and mutual support.
