Tensions in the Middle East have reached a critical point, with the conflict between Iran and Israel escalating dramatically in the early hours of Sunday, June 15. A fresh wave of missile attacks from Iran struck Israeli territory, marking the second major offensive overnight and the third day of open warfare between the longtime adversaries.
According to Iranian state television, the latest barrage was part of the ongoing operation dubbed “Honest Promise 3”, which began shortly after 3:10 a.m. local time. The Reuters news agency reported air raid sirens sounding across Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, with explosions heard in both cities.
The Israeli military confirmed missile launches from both Iran and Yemen targeting Israeli soil. In a post on the social platform X, Israel stated that the Iranian operation had “entered a new phase.” Ballistic missiles and drones from Iran were met with an intense Israeli counteroffensive stretching from Tehran to the Persian Gulf.
Heavy Casualties in Israel
The human toll continues to rise. At least eight people have been confirmed dead in Israel, including an 80-year-old woman, a 69-year-old woman, a 10-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl, all killed when an Iranian missile struck a residential building in the central city of Bat Yam.
Israeli media report that approximately 35 individuals remain unaccounted for in the same area. A spokesperson from the Magen David Adom emergency service reported that around 200 people were injured during the overnight attacks.
Saturday night’s strikes had already claimed the lives of four others—a 20-year-old woman in Haifa and three women in western Galilee—and injured at least 36 more.
Israel Intensifies Strikes on Iran
Since Friday, Israel has launched a broad and unprecedented bombing campaign targeting hundreds of military installations and nuclear sites across Iran. Officials say the goal is to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons. In response, Iran has retaliated with successive waves of ballistic missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.
Trump Issues Warning to Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Sunday. Posting on Truth Social, he declared that any attack on the United States would be met with “unprecedented force.” He stressed that the U.S. had no involvement in the overnight attacks on Iran and claimed that brokering peace between Iran and Israel remains within reach.
“We can easily strike a deal and end this bloody conflict!!!” he wrote.
