Paris will ban the consumption of alcohol in public spaces from Friday afternoon as authorities attempt to reduce health risks linked to the heatwave affecting France and much of Europe.
Paris police chief Patrice Faure announced the measure on Thursday, saying an official order would prohibit drinking alcohol in public from midday on Friday.

“As you know, drinking alcohol with the sun beating down can have a devastating effect,” Faure told French broadcaster BFM TV.
The restriction comes as high temperatures continue to affect the country, prompting authorities to introduce measures aimed at protecting people from heat-related health problems.
