The Pentagon has released a new collection of previously classified documents related to UFO sightings, including reports describing bright, often red, spherical objects observed by civilians in northeastern US states.
The newly released files represent the third batch of documents made public after earlier releases on May 8 and May 22. The disclosures include 72 reports from the archives of the FBI, CIA and Pentagon, containing witness statements, video material and artistic representations of reported sightings.
The objects described in several reports share similarities, with many accounts referring to spherical shapes appearing in the same geographical area.
One of the most detailed reports comes from February and is based on interviews conducted by the FBI with two witnesses. They described a powerful light that suddenly appeared one night in the backyard of their home. Their identities and exact location were removed from the documents for privacy reasons.
According to the report, one witness described the red light as “incredibly bright and beautiful,” saying they had never seen a color like it before.
The FBI documents describe the object as a red sphere measuring approximately one meter in diameter, with a white “plasma sun” at its center, roughly the size of a basketball. The witnesses also reported seeing a second sphere, with the two objects appearing connected as they moved away.
Weeks later, the same witnesses reportedly observed additional white objects flying at a very high altitude above the area.
Similar sightings were also documented in July 2025, around 25 miles from previous reported incidents known in the files as the “Triangle Spheres” and “Red Sphere Rotation” cases. Another report from October 2024 described a bright object hovering above a lake, with witnesses claiming it resembled a plasma sphere that changed shape and intensity, while its central light appeared to split into smaller points.
The release of the documents is part of the continued declassification of government reports on UFOs, officially referred to by the US military as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).
“These documents, which remained locked behind classified status for years, constantly fueled scenarios and conspiracy theories. It is time for the American people to see the truth with their own eyes,” US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said.
